Description
A vegetable-tanned shoulder from Badalassi Carlo in Tuscany – our all time favourite tannery, finished with a fine, uniform pin grain. The texture is subtle — close up it gives the surface a quiet, even tooth; at arm’s length it simply reads as good leather. Firm enough to hold its shape, soft enough to forget.
Badalassi Carlo tan in San Miniato, using bark tannins and slow-turning drums rather than chemicals and shortcuts. They’re one of the small group of Tuscan tanneries certified by the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale, and the difference shows in how the leather behaves over time rather than how it looks on day one.
Pin is cut from the double shoulder — the densest, most consistent part of the hide, with a tight fibre structure that resists stretch. Pressed into the grain is a fine, regular emboss that catches light softly and disguises the small marks of daily wear. Similar in finish to a Russian Hatch leather.
It arrives structured and settles quickly. With time the colour deepens, the surface takes on a gentle sheen, and the strap moulds to your wrist rather than fighting it.
