Cordovan

About Shell Cordovan

Shell cordovan is cut from a dense membrane — the shell — found in the rump of a horsehide. Its fibre structure behaves unlike other leathers: instead of cracking it forms soft rolling waves with wear, and the surface takes on a deep, velvety glow.

It is rare and expensive because tanning takes more than six months and only two small shells come from each hide. That density makes it highly resistant to water and deformation, and with basic care a cordovan strap will outlast decades of use.
